Durov Claims “Targeted Campaign” to Discredit Telegram Amid Privacy Concerns

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has denounced a “targeted campaign to discredit” the messenger, citing recent incidents. He refuted fake reports about Telegram exiting Russia and denied political motivations behind temporarily blocking some OSINT channels, attributing it to automated enforcement against personal data sharing.

Durov also criticized a “technically illiterate” June investigation into Telegram’s IP address handling, noting its rebuttal received less attention than the original claims. He reiterated Telegram’s 12-year commitment to privacy and free information access.

This follows Durov’s September announcement that Telegram will share violators’ IP addresses and phone numbers with authorities upon “reasonable legal requests,” made shortly after his arrest in Paris on charges including refusal to provide data to authorities.
