Durov: Telegram Is Not Dependent on Russian Capital

Telegram founder Pavel Durov firmly denied any financial reliance on Russia amid reports of frozen bonds. “No Russian investors participated in our recent $1.7 billion bond issuance. The old 2021 bonds are mostly repaid and pose no issues,” he stated.

Durov emphasized that bondholders hold no voting rights or shareholder status, adding, “I am the sole shareholder.”

This follows claims that $500 million in Telegram bonds were frozen in Russia’s National Settlement Depository due to Western sanctions, complicating debt repayments. Earlier rumors of Telegram opening a Russian office were denied by former spokesman Georgy Lobushkin and Durov himself, who dismissed them outright.
