France has reportedly lifted the travel ban on Telegram founder Pavel Durov, ending a year of restrictive measures tied to an ongoing investigation into the platform’s content moderation. By late 2024, Durov was required to remain in France with periodic police reporting and could only travel to Dubai with explicit judicial approval. 

French authorities had been examining whether Telegram’s moderation inadequacies facilitated criminal activity on the service. The latest development, if confirmed, would remove the travel restrictions and the ongoing reporting obligations, allowing Durov to travel more freely while the case continues. Durov has repeatedly denied the allegations, arguing that the platform’s oversight has improved and that the investigations misinterpret Telegram’s governance.
