A member of Iran’s industry and mining committee in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mustafa Pourdegan, says Telegram will soon be unblocked in the country. Although there has been no official government statement, Pourdegan told reporters that his government sources indicate positive news on Telegram’s removal from the ban. 

Last week, Iran presented Telegram with a set of conditions for reinstating access, including removing dangerous content and barring data from being shared with foreign intelligence services. Telegram has faced persistent restrictions since late 2017, when the app was first blocked. If the plan proceeds, Iran would ease nearly eight years of digital censorship affecting one of the region’s most popular messaging platforms, potentially reshaping how residents communicate online.
