Russia’s Interior Ministry’s Bureau for Combating Cybercrime has disclosed new details about so‑called “internet‑lookup” services, including those operating on Telegram. According to the agency, many of these services are implemented as Telegram bots that allow users to illegally compile a detailed “digital profile” of a victim — from full name and date of birth to addresses, phone numbers, and information about relatives.

Last year, cybercrime units shut down some of the country’s largest platforms involved in trading personal data. In the course of these operations, officers seized 18 physical and 19 virtual servers, some of which were located abroad. The total volume of seized information exceeded 200 terabytes, amounting to more than 50 billion lines of personal data. The ministry noted that such services were actively used by foreign call centers.
