Rumored Telegram Ban Pushes Russian Advertisers to Pull 1.2 Billion Rubles

Rumors that Telegram could soon be blocked in Russia have sparked serious anxiety among advertisers, leading companies to pull around 1.2 billion rubles in advertising budgets from the messenger. Officially, no ban has been announced, but developments in recent months have rattled the market. From August to October, Telegram users reported restrictions on making calls, recurring technical outages, and growing problems for new users trying to register.

Agencies and brands worry that a sudden shutdown or tighter restrictions would leave campaigns stranded and audiences unreachable. As a precaution, many have begun reallocating spend to other digital channels and more controlled environments, especially outside native, loosely governed Telegram channels, preferring platforms where risks appear lower and continuity of access seems more predictable.
