Russian authorities have finalized plans to fully block Telegram in the first days of April, according to RBC citing sources close to the Kremlin. Two sources described the decision as “final,” while a third familiar with agency discussions confirmed the early April timeline, with Telegram channel Baza previously reporting a possible April 1 cutoff. The move follows a surge in reported recruitment cases on the platform, including of minors, for unlawful acts. 

A Kremlin source told RBC that by April, Telegram will only function on the front lines. Roskomnadzor began throttling the app on February 10, causing delays in media, voice messages, and files, and has since issued seven protocols for non-removal of prohibited content. The regulator maintains its stance, promising continued restrictions unless Telegram complies with Russian law.
