Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has backed Candace Owens’ recent assertion that French authorities may have had a role in the death of American activist Charlie Kirk, calling the claim “entirely plausible.” Durov posted on X that, after reviewing everything Kirk had ever stated about France—particularly President Macron—”Candace’s info about French involvement in his death is entirely plausible.”

The controversy grew after Kirk advocated for a 300% tariff on French wine as retaliation against charges faced by Durov. Owens has alleged that French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife authorized Kirk’s assassination, reportedly based on information from a French government insider, but provided no substantiated evidence. Durov’s comments quickly spread on social media as tension increases around this high-profile case, highlighting ongoing international debates about political repression, tech CEOs, and free speech.
