Telegram founder Pavel Durov has alerted users to a surge in scams involving extortion over valuable platform collectibles. He revealed that rare Telegram gifts, numbers, and usernames – now fetching over $100,000 – are being targeted by blackmailers threatening to expose personal information unless users surrender them. Some channels also operate extortion schemes by posting damaging content and demanding payment for removal.

Durov condemned these practices as “illegal and immoral.” He urged victims to report incidents immediately by sending him direct messages with supporting evidence.

The founder assured that confirmed perpetrators will face removal from the Telegram platform as part of the crackdown.
