On December 12, numerous iOS users reported that the Telegram app was forcefully demanding an update through persistent pop-up windows that interrupt usage at any moment, including right upon opening. The notification urges upgrading to version 12.2.4, warning that older versions may soon stop working entirely. Notably, these aggressive prompts appeared even on relatively recent builds, such as version 12.2.1 used by a Durov’s Code editor. 

While a new version is indeed available in the App Store, Telegram’s team declined to comment on the reason for this unusually insistent mechanism. In the long term, such near-mandatory notifications will push many users to install updates, though some resist, preferring older versions for their familiar design and lack of new features they view as disruptive.
