Telegram Makes Premium Subscription Enough for Bots to Use Custom Emojis

Telegram has updated how bots can use premium emojis, making a Telegram Premium subscription on the bot owner’s account sufficient to unlock them. Previously, bots could send custom emojis only if they were linked to an NFT username, which initially cost 5,000 TON and was later reduced to 1,000 TON. Now, if a bot is created under an account with an active Premium subscription, it can include premium emojis in its messages; if the owner does not have Premium, the bot cannot use them. The permission is tied to the owner’s account, not to whether the bot has an NFT username.

There are still limitations: premium emojis do not appear in inline mode, bots generally cannot leave custom reactions, and bots without an NFT username still cannot send custom emojis to channels. This behavior may change as Telegram refines the feature.
