Telegram Mandates Email Linking for Russian Users to Secure Account Access

Telegram News 2025-11-18 Create

Telegram has introduced a mandatory requirement for Russian users to link an email address to their accounts to maintain access. When opening the app, a notification prompts users to add their email, blocking further use until they comply.

This step is intended to prevent loss of account access, especially after reports of telecom operators potentially blocking SMS verification codes. Since late October, Telegram allows users to log in via their email as an alternative authentication method. By linking an email, users gain an additional recovery option, which helps maintain uninterrupted use of the messaging service and safeguards against difficulties tied to phone number authentication disruptions.
