The action follows hundreds of user complaints about blackmail schemes, including channels demanding payment to remove defamatory content or offering “protection blocks” against harassment.

Durov emphasized Telegram is “not a place for doxing and blackmail,” vowing to remove offenders and their clones. Users can report threats via his channel, though direct messaging requires payment of ~$100 in Telegram Stars. The crackdown follows earlier warnings about username/gift scams on the platform.
