Telegram Tests Passkey Login in Android Beta for Passwordless Access

Telegram News 2025-12-04 Create

Telegram is preparing to introduce passkey authentication, discovered in the Android beta version 12.2.8. Passkeys, stored securely in password managers from Google, Apple, Samsung, and others, allow users to log in without SMS codes or traditional passwords. The login screen now features a “Log in using passkeys” button that prompts biometric verification—Face ID, fingerprint, or PIN—granting access instantly.

Keys are managed through Telegram’s privacy settings and remain device-bound unless synced via the manager. This feature, already used by services like VK and Google, enhances security against phishing and eliminates SMS dependency, especially relevant amid Russian operator blocks on verification messages. The rollout will reach all users in an upcoming stable update.
