Telegram’s administration blocked 44.085 million channels and groups last year for violating platform rules—a 170% increase (2.7x) from the previous year. The sharpest rise occurred in Q4, with 17.416 million blocked in three months, surpassing the entire prior year’s total.

Among them: over 950,000 channels with child sexual abuse material (up 28.02%) and around 234,000 terrorist communities (up 66.6%). On January 1, 2026, admins blocked ~543,000 in one day—the third time since December 2023 that daily blocks exceeded 500,000, following two instances in November 2024.

In August 2025, founder Pavel Durov noted blocking dozens of doxxing and extortion channels based on hundreds of user reports about fraud and blackmail.
