Pavel Durov has clarified plans to restore audio and video calls for Russian users of Telegram, which have been blocked by Roskomnadzor. Refusing to compromise on privacy or hand over encryption keys, Telegram is addressing the issue by automatically replacing the app with MAX Messenger during the next update for users with Russian phone numbers. 

MAX Messenger allows calls without restrictions, bypassing the block on Telegram’s call features. Durov emphasized that while Telegram maintains its strong stance on user security and privacy, leaving Russian users without voice call options is unacceptable. By installing MAX, Telegram’s team ensures uninterrupted access to voice communication in Russia despite governmental restrictions, offering a practical solution without sacrificing user privacy.
